A Warning for Writers

Hello mates, it’s been a long while since I’ve written anything like this, so I hope ye guys enjoy it and that it wasn’t too painful to read!

As writers, we tend we want the best reaction from our readers, so much so that sometimes we forget the importance of writing and forget who we’re really supposed to be doing it for. We get so caught up in the story, and what it needs to do to keep our readers intrigued, and because of this, we put unnecessary stuff into our stories because we think that’s what people want to read. But the truth is that our world is just caught up in the darkness and mess of awful things that have been put in people’s minds.

Are we writing for the people? Yes, but we’re also writing for God, and we should be writing what He wants us to write, not what other people want. Which sadly is Gore and spicy romance and profanity and witchcraft.

You may say that’s just how my writing style is, or that’s just who I am, but no, it’s not. It’s not who you are. You are just confused. You want to be noticed, and you think the only way to be noticed with your stories is to add that unnecessary stuff into your books.

Writing is a beautiful and wonderful gift that God has given us. So, why take it for granted? Why write this kind of stuff when you can write beautiful things that will inspire people? That could guide them out of the darkness and to the Light, which is God!

Honestly, we need more good books in the world right now. Beauty, grace, and innocence are vanishing before our eyes and being replaced with woke messages. I mean, think about the books and movies coming out recently and what is being put inside children’s heads or siblings or friends’ or cousins. Take a minute to think of what it’s doing to you. Yes, even you.

Do you feel good, or are you just telling yourself you feel good because in truth, you feel terrible? Do you say that those sorts of things matter when deep down you know they do? They push us further into the darkness and away from the Light.

What I’m trying to say is stories can be so beautiful and just as powerful without the gore, without the sex, without the language, without the weird dark characters we are supposed to like because of sad backstories that somehow make wrong actions right, without witchcraft. You could be helping the world right now by publishing good, wholesome, beautiful stories. Stories with meaning, hope, and light!

I hope you all get something out of this!

May God bless each and every one of you!

Your friend, Rissy

Amazing post, and I totally agree. It’s sad how many books are out there that are just…not good. Thanks for posting this truthful reminder!

Aw, thank you so much! Me too, Kathryn. It’s such an alluring idea to write what we think people want and what we feel will sell.

Such a good post, Rissy!!! So true, we never NEED to include any of that content in order to deliver a powerful story, and thankfully there are so many wonderful stories out there that prove that!

Thank you so much for this, Rissy! This is so true and something I’ve been dealing with lately in my own writing. We as a team of godly writers can change the world for Jesus if we persevere and let Him lead us. This is one of my favorite posts so far.
