Has your WIP a working title? If so, tell us! If not, have you any idea of what it might be?
Yes! It doesโฆit took a while to come up with it, but the official title is Unfortunate Events: The Dragon Prince Chronicles Book 1! The plan is to do a trilogy!
Have you a synopsis for your WIP? If so, give it to us! If not, can you give us a blurb on what your WIP is about?
Yes! We have a synopsis! Here you are!
Lies are worn as masks, darkness threatens, and fear spreads like fire.
Mazleah has lost its Crowned Prince and the kingdom stands on the edge of ruin. When Kahtan Faber is forced into the Kingโs army life as he knew it collapses. Thrust onto a team with a brogue-speaking street boy, a secretive lordling, and his hometown bully, Kahtan quickly learns what it means to be alone. As a Blacksmithโs son who has never wielded a blade, heโs nothing more than a failure to those around him.
But when secrets about his teammates are revealed, secrets that could shake Mazleah to its core, Kahtan must decide whether to stand with his team or with his country. Although nothing in Mazleah is ever that simple.
What do you think?
Have you a working/mock cover for your WIP? If so, show us! If not, have you an idea in mind?
We do! Rissy came up with the cover concept and Jaidie executed it perfectly and brought it to life! And Kayti defaced it with the title and scriptโฆlolโฆ.

How did you get the idea for this story?
Oh, fun questionโฆwell, we were bored. Dad was late coming home for dinner, we had nothing to do, and Rissy was likeโฆLetโs just write for fun, like each write a sentence and see what happensโฆso, we did. And ta-da!!! This happenedโฆhahaโฆ.
How long do you think it will be? Is it longer or shorter than you thought it would be?
Longer, we thought like short storyโฆand it turned into a plan for a trilogy! Well, a trilogy in progress, we have book 2 written (needs some edits to make it work better) and the first chapter of book 3, outlinedโฆlolโฆso, it is definitely longer! As mentioned above it was supposed to be for fun, notโฆwell, all thisโฆhahaโฆ
Whoโs your favourite character so far?
*gasps* How dare you?! Favorite characterโฆhonestly, we canโt choose. When you all get to read the book, hopefully, you will see why. The characters are just so much better as a group, not that they canโt stand alone, butโฆwe love our boys together! And we keep teasing, but Nark in book two just adds a whole nother level to the groupโฆlolโฆ
Now, if it was least favorite character that is so easyโฆMaisleyโฆhahaโฆ
Whatโs your favourite memory related to this WIP?
Probably just writing our boys, itโs so fun just to goof off, use parts and not others, and just overall have a LOT of fun! One of the funnest (This is saying funnest isnโt a word? *gasps* Our brother uses it all the time, so we gonna use itโฆlolโฆ) projects weโve worked on together! Because our boys areโฆwell, boys. So, they goof off, joke around, blurt the first thing that comes to mind, and some of them are majorly sarcastic. *glances at Gaven* They are tons of fun!
Any special person(s) who helped create it?
Well, *glances at family* our fam definitely inspired some of the characters but they are all busy with their ownโฆstuff. So special people who helped create and get UF to where it is areโฆ.*drumroll please*
Saraina Whitney and Abbi Befus! Our dear, dear friends who read the very, very, very, very, very rough first draft and kindly told us it was goodโฆlolโฆyou girls are the sweetest! So, we wouldnโt be here without them! *pulls said girls into a hug* Hope to meet you two one day! Itโs gonna happen!!!
Whatโs your favourite scene so far (if you can tell about it without spoilers!)?
Ooo, a favorite scene so farโฆum, wellโฆweโre thinking of several, major character arch moments and ending scenes, and that last sentence of the epilogue *shivers* (Sees our betas shiver too, you guys get it). But yeah, they are all spoilersโฆweโre so proud of our boys! *hugs them* even though some of them still need to grow up a bitโฆlolโฆ
Can you give us a snippet?
Sureโฆ.um, hold on a sec *slides over to Doc*
Wow! That thing is literally littered with spoilersโฆhahaโฆhard to find a scene with all the boys that doesnโt have a spoilerโฆlolโฆBut, we found one!
โWhen do we eat?โ Wixley grumbled.
Kahtanโs gaze met Wixleyโs and he groaned. โIn the morning. Master Finnick said we talk back too much and would go without dinner. Remember?โ
Gaven flopped back onto his cot. โI do not know if I will make it. I am hungry enough to eat my hand right now. He makes us run like racehorses and then expects us to go without food. This man is crazy.โ
โLoony, daft, right oot his mind,โ Sage added, rubbing his legs.
โHeโs a monster,โ Kahtan said as he curled into a ball and tried to ignore the gnawing pain in his stomach.
The other boys mumbled in agreement.
Unfortunate Events: The Dragon Prince Chronicles Book 1
That was a fun scene to write! Especially what happens right after thisโฆhahaโฆpoor Kahtan, so shocked, so weโll stop talking about something no one else knows about.
Is the story still what you thought it would be or has it thrown you a couple curveballs?
Well, it was supposed to be short and now itโs LONG so thatโs a curveballโฆlolโฆbut we just ride it out, so we never have very concrete plansโฆitโs like this is a cool idea, yeah, add it to the list and weโll see what makes it into the final draftโฆhahaโฆso, we kind of live for curveballs!
Oh, like that part in book 2โฆyeah, didnโt see that coming. *sniffs* that was a major curveballโฆnever saw that coming, really it wasโฆhaha, weโll stop.
Is there a Bible verse, poem, hymn, picture, or quote that helped shape this story?
Song is not on this list, but there is/was a songโฆlolโฆCeasefire by For King and County was a big beginning part of the shaping of the book.
And this verse definitely fits the theme of our book and is one of our many favorite verses!
God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.
1 Corinthians 1:27
When and where have you done most of the writing so far?
In Rissy and Jaidieโs bedroom, between the hours of 9 and 10 in the eveningโฆlolโฆWe are creatures of habit. WE did start the book on the front porch and that is where we have done most of the editing, here lately.
Where do you get inspiration for this story?
Anywhere and everywhereโฆlolโฆon a walk, from a movie, a songโฆanything really! We get ideas from the most random or random things…haha…
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Weโre definitely pantsersโฆlolโฆwe just write and see where the day takes us! Sometimes we’ll come up with a vague idea on a walk or something, but we have like where we need to start, where we want the story to end, and everything in between is fair game…lol…
Do you have a little ritual before you start writing?
We always watch a bit of tv before we writeโฆbut thatโs basically it. Nothing else, just a little tv and then we write. *shrugs* Sorry that’s not exciting…lol…
Are you thinking of publishing this story?
Yes! We are publishing Unfortunate Events on Sept. 9th!!! We are so very excited about it!!!!
You can preorder here!
And claim preorder goodies here!
What things have you learned while writing this story?
OH, wowโฆum, on the not deep end of things first. How to write humor and how to keep a character in character and develop strong character voices. We have our four boys, so it was fun learning how to keep their personalities separate and interesting!
On the deeper side of thingsโฆlearning to trust and accept others and ourselves. Working as a team, not only just to complete this project but also through writing our characters. Kahtan (the MC) is not the typical hero, he has a lot of growing left to do, but heโs so fun to write. Heโs taught us a thing or two in the donโt think too little of yourself department.
Master Finnick has probably helped teach us the most. Honestly, there is a scene toward the endโฆthat weโre not sure where it came from, but Master Finnick has some wise words that definitely didnโt come from usโฆlolโฆ
So, weโve learned a lot. Grown as writers and people through the process and are just super excited to share this with everyone!
