Hey folks! Merry Christmas! It’s one week until Christmas! Which means we will be disappearing from the blogosphere (at least post wise) until after the first of the new year! And then hopefully we will have publishing updates for Rissy’s book and maybe Kayti and Jaidie will finally finish up the finale round of Know the Novel. XD
Don’t worry though, we’re not disappearing complete. We will be sending out more chapters of Operation Christmas Haters this evening! And hopefully one more set before Christmas…it won’t be the end of the story so we’ll try to wrap it up and send the rest (a large portion of it) with the January Newsletter. 🙂
If you want to read Operation Christmas Haters be sure to subscribe to our newsletter!
But right now we’ve gotten tagged by Kay Adelin for the Holiday 20 Question Tag!
So, let’s get to it! *passes you a plate of chocolate covered Ritz crackers with peanut butter between them*
The Rules:
- Link to the original post.
- Credit the person who tagged you. (Thanks, Kay!)
- Tag one 1-3 more bloggers.
1. When do you consider the holiday season officially started?
Like, October 10th. XD We don’t celebrate Halloween so we go straight to thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas after Rissy’s birthday. XD We mean, Kayti’s birthday is also before the holidays but so close to Thanksgiving most years it just gets lumped in there. (Sorry, Kayti.)
2. What’s your favorite thing about winter?
Christmas! Everyone’s happy and it’s so fun! We would say snow, but since we get snow like every five years it’s not consistent enough to count. XD
3. What’s your least favorite thing about winter?
Black ice. It’s a killer when we’re trying to walk the dogs. We have a hill below our house that is super bad to ice over and then it’s just a slip and slide all the time. XD
4. What do you like to do in the snow?
If and when we get enough snow to do anything we love doing snowball fights! It’s a family thing. XD And Ruger (our doggo) makes it even more fun because he wants to eat all the snowballs. (thus the reason we can’t build snowmen, Ruger eats them…we mean, we only had a enough snow to try it once so *shrugs*)
We also love making snow cream! So tasty!
5. What’s your favorite holiday tradition?
We were just taking about this Sunday…lol…Nana suggested moving it and we had to defend it. XD We love having snack foods and sandwiches at our grandparents house on Christmas Eve! Then we watch The Nativity Story before heading home and attempting to sleep. Which don’t usually happen…lol…Because a) excitement and b) way too much sugar before bed…lol…
6. How do you usually celebrate Thanksgiving?
We’re Southerners it’s all about the family and the food, y’all! For the past seven Thanksgivings we’ve hosted at our house, which is usually just all our siblings, Nana and Papaw, and then our aunt and uncle. We have LOTS of food! Turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, stuffing, dressing, apple salad, cranberry apple bake, deviled eggs, and you get the point. XD
7. How do you usually celebrate Christmas?
Christmas is a busy day! Lol…we get up and walk the dogs as soon as daylight is available. Then we come back and everyone gets a cup of coffee or cider and then we gathering in the living room and dad reads the nativity story. Then we open presents from youngest to oldest. (we like seeing what everyone got. XD) Then we clean up, walk the dogs again and usually begin making Christmas brunch, but this year we’re doing a light breakfast and a Christmas dinner where Nana and Papaw and our aunt and uncle will come over for basically the same stuff we had at Thanksgiving and more presents exchanged. XD
Our brother Kyler will usually pull out his guitar, and a spare for our sister Cassie and one for Nana too, and then Christmas music will commence. If the three of us are brave the dulcimers will make an appearance…speaking of which we should probably practice Little Drummer Boy. XD
Then when everyone leaves it’s time for Christmas movies! Usually It’s a Wonderful Life. 🙂
8. What’s your favorite type of pie?
For the holidays….Pumpkin, hands down.
9. What’s your fave winter/Christmas-themed emoji?
The snowflakes!
Jaidie likes the reindeer though. 😉
10. What’s your favorite Christmas song?
Oh dear! There’s so many! Can we just drop our playlist? Lol…
Okay, here’s a few:
Beautiful Star of Bethlehem by The Judds
O Come, O Come Emmanuel by for King & Country
The Manger by Anne Wilson & Josh Turner
Merry Christmas to You by Sidewalk Prophets
Glorious Night by Sidewalk Prophets
He Shall Reign by Chris Tomlin
Manger Throne by Phil Wickham
I Heard the Bells by Casting Crowns
To name some of the songs we’ve been jamming to…lol…here’s our full playlist of Christmas Vibes on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3L9DevfOSnOWLGJFB95hqq?si=Pe3uulpJTkmRGTLbi7YKHA
11. Do you have a Christmas tree? If so how do you like to decorate it?
We have two Christmas Trees! The kitchen and living room are on opposite sides of the house with a long hallway inbetween them (sound strange? It is a little…lol…but we love our house.). So we have a very elegant silver and blue themed tree in the living room with snowflakes and such on it, and an angel to top it off.
And then in the kitchen we have a very old timey red and black check tree with old fashioned snowman and reindeer and a star on top. It’s got garland made of cinnamon sticks wrapped around it and is very cozy and pretty!
12. What’s one gift you would like to receive for Christmas this year?
Jaidie – Watercolor Lord of the Rings! I asked for them and basically know I got them, I just have to wait for Christmas to actually see the inside of the books. XD
Rissy – I didn’t really know what I wanted so anything is great. XD
Kayti – Books…but I really hope I get a copy of The Nightmare Virus by Nadine Brandes! I read an ARC and loved it! So I’d love to have a physical copy for my shelf.
13. Would you rather host a holiday party or go to someone else’s?
We don’t really do parties, we are major introverts….lol….but we’d say host. That way we could retreat to our room and watch TV if needed. XD We’ve hosted the family get togethers before and we often retreat. XD
14. What’s your favorite Christmas movie?
So many! Again…wow! Um, some we love!
Fred Claus – Learn more here.
It’s a Wonderful Life
Home Alone 1 & 2
Silent Night (WWII story)
15. What do you like to do on New Year’s Eve?
We love having sparkling grape juice and then we go to sleep, early usually. XD We don’t care about seeing the new year in. As our Papaw Lake used to say, “It’s seen itself in just fine without me before.”
16. Have you ever stayed up til midnight?
Yep. Went to a family friends for New Years Eve and stayed up till 3:00 am!!!!!!! Took weeks to catch up on sleep. We do not recommend it. Or banging pots and pans to see the New Year in, or playing Clue at 2:00 am…lol…
17. Do you believe in New Year’s Resolutions?
We do them, and have good intentions…lol…not sure if we ever seen them through but it’s fun to try.
18. As of now, have you kept any of yours from 2024?
Jaidie says she did some of hers…most of them… Rissy didn’t set any… and Kayti can’t remember what hers were. XD
19. How long do you get off of school for winter break?
Well, Kayti and Rissy are graduated. XD
But Jaidie is currently off, since Monday…so she’ll be out of school until January 6th.
20. Overall, how much do you love the holiday season on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the worst part of the year 10 being absolutely amazing)?
12! Do you get? 12 Days of Christmas…lol…Anyway, it’s the best time of the year! We love the holidays so much and enjoy them so much! We love giving gifts! It’s our favorite part! Trying to pick someone for all the people in the fam is so difficult, but so much fun!
