EMBERLING Launch Tour – The Heart Behind the Story! & End of Tour

The tour is over and so many of you have posted reviews for Emberling! I’m so thankful for each and everyone of you that has followed Emberling‘s publishing journey! For those that have cheered me on since I released World of Silence in 2022! Granted, Emberling is a different age group and kind of story, but you guys have been so supportive!

I want y’all to know that I appreciate all of you! So much! Writing the book is only part of the story, the reader finishes it. (Paraphrasing something I read somewhere, probably Pinterest. XD)

In honor of the end of the tour (that was technically supposed to be yesterday) I’ve decided to share some of the heart behind Emberling! And the maybe a sneak peek at Waveling!

Let’s go!

Emberling was originally a lot different from the story that ended up writing, but the more I talked to my family about it the more I kept hearing that is sounded like a lot of YA books out there. So with help from my parents I ended up changing things. The biggest things were that Iya was no longer the last of her kind, the Emberlings needed a purpose, and the rangers needed a reason to hunt them.

Once I got these fact laid out and figured out why everything was happening, the story started to fall into place. I knew from the beginning that one of the central themes of the book would be trusting God, even in tough situations. That’s a theme that’s over arched for the entire series because it’s a reminder I’ve needed so many times in my life. A theme that is close to my heart because I’ve been through seasons where I wondered where God was in what was happening. Times when I thought God had left. But the truth was, He never left, I just pushed Him away because I didn’t like my situation. Looking back I can see what He was doing now. The ways that I and my family have been able to reach out and touch others because of those seasons.

God works everything together for our good. That is something I wholeheartedly believe and something I endeavored to work into Emberling.

But halfway through the book something interesting happened…

I realized trusting God wasn’t the only theme. For Iya is was here main arch, but for Malcolm…his arch was different. He was more bitter than I’d originally plotted, more set in his ways, and in a lot of ways…blind to truth.

Thus another theme emerged—forgiveness. Malcolm had to come to turns with the past and what he believed to be true. He had to face what he had become and the facts of the situation and come to a new understanding. To say this was hard theme to write would be an understatement. It was extremely difficult and the more the story went on the more the theme evolved and paired with another theme…

Surrendering our life, our hopes, and dreams to God. Letting God write the story, instead of taking the pen from His hand. And this theme circled back around to trusting God with our future. I didn’t plan the themes, God did. Because there is no way I could have wrapped these up as nicely as He did.

With each layer of the themes that unfolded I found myself being challenged. Challenged to let go of past hurts, challenged to give my future to God, to surrender my writing and my life to His perfect plan, and to lean on Him more and more as this story moved beyond what I could handle—I had to trust God with the story He’d given me.

I love writing because I’m growing closer to God alongside my characters. I feel closest to God when writing and exploring the worlds He helps me create. It’s a beautiful and fun experience and guys, I thought Emberling was a roller coaster…it was nothing compared to the emotional roller coaster God took me on in Waveling.

So, I hope you enjoy Emberling! And I can’t wait to introduce y’all to Waveling! Here’s some of my favorite quotes from Emberling and Waveling:

The grasses whispered in the wind, singing the secrets of Elohim, or so Mother said. She claimed if you slowed down and listened close enough, you would hear Him, and He would tell you what to do.

Emberling – Kaytlin Phillips

This is what happened when man tried to play Elohim.
Destruction.
Despair.
Death.
None of us could see the full plan like Elohim could, and when we tried to write the story ourselves we only made it worse. But we kept coming back to the desk, sitting in His chair, taking up His pen, and trying to write it on our own. We were not perfect, nor would we ever be until we surrendered the pen to His almighty hand. If only that was as easily done as it was to say.

Emberling – Kaytlin Phillips

Perhaps that was the bravest thing of all, saying no to what you wanted most and instead giving your all for people who wouldn’t remember you once it was all said and done.

Emberling – Kaytlin Phillips

Elohim knew what He was doing and I just had to trust His plan. Sometimes that was the hardest part of all.

Waveling – Kaytlin Phillips

The price of protecting others was high. Sometimes it cost us mentally or emotionally. Sometimes it cost an arm or a leg. And sometimes the price for protecting those you loved was everything, including your life.

Waveling – Kaytlin Phillips

“You can’t blame yourself for the past, because you can’t go back and fix it.” Tears stood in [redacted]’s eyes as she gazed at me. “You have to let the past go, [redacted]. Ask the Spirit to forgive your mistake and do the best you can moving forward. We all make mistakes, but we can’t let those mistakes dominate and rule our lives.”

Waveling – Kaytlin Phillips

“Sometimes the wild things don’t know what’s best for them and in those moments we must step in to save them from their own folly. Sometimes Elohim calls us to act when all our instincts insist we should stay still.”

Waveling – Kaytlin Phillips

I hope you enjoyed the quotes from Emberling and Waveling! Book 3 – Project S is underway and has about 12k in it…but nothing super quote worthy at the moment. I mean, maybe something here and there…lol…but I haven’t edited it. XD

I’m so excited about this series!

One never realizes how large their world is until they struggle to protect it.

Her entire life, Iya has been pursued by the Rangers, who despise her people for the fire in their veins. She has lost everything to their hatred, and now the fate of Uriu hangs in the treacherous balance. The Emberlings are dwindling in numbers, causing unleashed chaos that threatens not only Englewood but the Meadows of Harvanth as well.

Malcolm Cabe is fueled by hatred as he sets out to annihilate the fire-wielding Emberlings responsible for his father’s death. However, his mission takes an unexpected turn when he saves Iyana, a secretive girl haunted by a heartrending past.

Iya must keep her identity hidden from Malcolm and the other Rangers because if they discover who she is…death awaits her. But if the truth is never told how can they find the strength to forgive and unite? Decisions need to be made, and the wrong ones could lead to the destruction of all of Uriu.
