Hi everyone! Today I’ve got a list of Young Adult and New Adult Fantasy books and series that I have enjoyed! I complied this list months ago and I’m only now getting around to posting it because I’ve been procrastinating on linking all the titles to Goodreads. I know, lame excuse, but still…lol…
I hope you guys enjoy this list! Hopefully you will find some new books to read too!
The Kingdom Series โ Chuck Black
Genre – YA
This is an epic 6 book allegorical fantasy series that I absolutely love! The first two books are about Leonad, the third book is about Cedric, the next two books are about Gaven whose story is a retelling of the apostle Paul, and then the final book is once more about Cedric.
I love this series! The audiobooks of them are epic as well since they have all the voices and sound effects! And thereโs a song that Chuckโs daughter wrote and sings at the end of book 4 that makes me cry every time, so beautiful!
The Feyfolk Trilogy โ M.C. Kennedy
Genre – YA
This series is really good! It does have small amounts of magic, nothing overly weird, just like teleporting, and some basic magic things. But the cool part is this is set in a world where it is always nighttime like the world is literally lit by moons all the time! Super cool concept, I thought.
Though the ending of book 1 does endeavor to rip your heart out so have some tissues ready.
The Redwyn Chronicles โ Madisyn Carlin
Genre – NA
This is one of my most favorite series! Madisyn is an auto-buy author for me! I donโt have many of those either. *wink*
These are fairytale retellings with a side of detective. Redwyn Deathan is the Royal Decetive who is hunting down trafficking rings inside the lands. Itโs awesome you guys! IRON and ARROW are the two books officially in the Redwyn Chronicles and then you have the prequel novella CROWN and book 1.5 (I love this one so much!) KEY!
If you havenโt read this series, take your savings and go and get them! But donโt read the sneak peek at the end of ARROW like I didโฆbecause now Iโm in torment wondering whatโs going to happen and book 3 is slotted for release in 2025. cries
The Shattered Lands Series โ Madisyn Carlin
Genre – NA
Another series by Madisyn Carlin! I also love these books. There are 5 POVs in these books so if you donโt like multiple POVs, this series is probably not the best choice. Me, I love them! Thereโs action, awesomeness, tension, a warrior group with tensionโฆand yeah, this is a really awesome series as well!
The Songkeeper Chronicles โ Gillian Bronte Adams
Genre – YA
This is one of the first fantasy series outside of LotR and Narnia that I read and it is still one of my favorites! I love these books so much! There are a few spots in book 2, Songkeeper, that get a little intense/dark, but other than that this series is so awesome!
I love the whole concept of a song being a weapon, so if you love music I highly recommend!
The Fireborn Epic โ Gillian Bronte Adams
Genre – YA
Horses that breathe FIRE! Need I say more? Okay, thereโs water horses, earth horses, wind horses, etcโฆ.and itโs awesome you guys! This series is just epic in every way! Including lengthโฆlolโฆthis is a 3 POV series that is just sooooooo good! Rafi is my favorite, but I also enjoy Cerdiwen and Jakimโs POVs as well.
The Chronicles of Elira โ Victoria Lynn
Genre – NA? Iโm not sure actuallyโฆ
This series is beautiful and just so good! I love the second book the most, but the first book is great as well and book 3 looks like itโs going to be sooooo good! I love the themes of purpose and meaning woven into the story, and the faith content is also really good!
Marcus is a dear and I love him so much! But all the characters are great! Plus book 1 has the Amnesia trope and book 2 has a disability rep!
The Knights of Arreathea โ Chuck Black
Genre – YA
This is a series that can be read by itself or after The Kingdom Series and is also so good! The first 4 books are my favorites, actually, books 3 and 4 are my absolute favorites! But the first two are good, and the last two in themselves are okay as well.
Moonscript โ H.S.J. Williams
Genre – YA
This is such a vivid story of light and darkness and I really enjoyed it! My heart went out to Errance, and I just wanted to help him! There is just the slightest bit of magic in this story, but it is presented as the darkness and evil that it is and is in no way condoned.
Thereโs a lot of really cool world-building and beautiful prose in this story!
Crown of Sand & Sea โ H.S.J. Williams
Genre – YA
This is a novella that connects to Moonscript, and I really enjoyed it as well! Though not as much as Moonscript, but the cover of this book is absolutely gorgeous! I could gaze at it for hours!
The Ilyon Chronicles โ Jaye L. Knight
Genre – YA
I just finished reading this series last week! The story is just beautiful and so powerful! I adore Jaceโs arch throughout the series and could read anything with him in it! Honestly though, so many fantastic characters. This is a 6 book series with two novellas and 2 short stories that can be read alongside it as well.
The only things Iโm not hugely found of in the series was the way Jesus is represented in book 3 with no followers and two bodyguards of a sort, and then the ending of the final book felt a bit drawn out but I adore the characters so as I said, Iโd read anything with them in it. Especially Jace. *hugs the poor guy*
(Thereโs going to be a pattern of me loving the most traumatized characters, because their arcs are the most beautifulโฆsorry.)
Exiled โ Kristina Hall
Genre – NA
This is a fantasy western which is just such an interesting and fun read! I had so much fun with the western/fantasy blend and kind of want to try my hand at it at some point! I mean, Kristina has said I should a few timesโฆlolโฆweโll see.
Anyway, this story is just super fun, suspenseful, and intriguing!
The Ravenwood Chronicles โ Morgan L. Busse
Genre – YA
This trilogy was a new read for me last year and I so need copies now! I loved this series! The different powers for different leading housesโฆdream walking?!!! Like awesome! Silene is so cool! And then Damienโฆ.ack! Awesome! I just so enjoyed this series!
There is a marriage of convenience trope and also someone romance sprinkled throughout the series but very tastefully handled.
Fawkes โ Nadine Brandes
Genre – YA
This is a Historical Fantasy, the first one I ever read and boy is it good! To give you an idea of how good, Jaidie isnโt a fan of historical fiction, but she loves this book! Because the fantasy elements are so cool!!
Thereโs color powers that have been incorporated, but they are symbolic of Protestant and Catholics! Itโs like such a cool concept and justโฆ.Thomas is an awesome character! And I adore this storyโฆ
Also, you can get a hardcover for $1.99 right now off Christian Books! Because they are discontinuing them. Yes, that whole thing is a linkโฆgo snag an epic deal!!
Romanov โ Nadine Brandes
Genre – YA
Another historical fantasy that is just fantastic! There is magic in this one, but again, no spell casting or chanting. Nothing weird which is where I start backing out. As long it just has a nice fantasy feel Iโll read it, but if someone starts casting or chanting or waving a wand Iโm out.
This is a fantasy version of Anastasia and I really did enjoy the story though it completely destroyed my heart, but Nadine Brandes often does that to me so really nothing new.
Storm & Spire Series โ Stefanie Lozinski
Genre – YA
Another series with a little bit of magic, which at the time I wasnโt 100% sure how it worked. ButโฆI still enjoyed this series. The last book made me cryโฆlolโฆ
The story follows Wes Cervos and the friends he makes along the way as they try to restore the worship of the High One.
The Peleg Chronicles โ Matthew Christian Harding
Genre – YA
This is a fantasy/historical sort of book with dragons and giants and creepy priest. I beleive itโs supposed to be set before or right after the flood and was one of my favorites growing up! Though I will admit when I was younger I skipped over the faith content. *hide* But I reread them about a year or two ago and really enjoyed the books all around!
The Guild of Thieves โ Jaiden Phillips
Genre – YA
This one is epic! (Iโm no biased, maybeโฆokay, possibly a little.) Itโs got Robin Hood, Scarlett Pimpernel, and Aladdin vibes all wrapped up in a unique Victorian flare fantasy world! There are thieves and treason, redemption and betrayalโฆand an evil villain with plenty of humor and sarcastic comments.
And of course the themes are beautiful! The setting so vibrant it practically jumps off the page with the way Jaiden (whoโs an artist) describes things!! Diceโs story is so worth reading!
The Lord of the Rings โ J.R.R. Tolkien
Genre – YA
Honestly, need I say anything about this epic series? I love these books and Iโm seriously due for a rereadโฆbut that being said they are awesome! I love them so much!! All the characters are just so great!
The Halycon Epic โ Abigail G. Thompson
Genre – YA
This series is a little bit outside my normalโฆmainly because there is some magic in the series. Now, before you all think Iโve gone off the deep endโฆthe magic is used to represent spiritual warfare and the darkness that is threatening to overtake our world. I have to sayโฆitโs well done! At parts itโs creepy, but itโs always presented as the evil that is. Some of the good guys have โmagicโ but itโs more like spiritual gifts that the Lord has blessed them with. Thereโs no spell casting or anything weird like that.
Okay, now that Iโve explained thatโฆlet me say the picture of hope that this book paints is beautiful! Of the light that can shine into the darkest corners and illuminate the darkness! Itโs beautiful! Guys I cried over the redemption arch in book 2!! I didโฆit was so beautiful to see the illustration of God taking the most unworthy of us and using us for His glory despite the enemyโs best attempts to keep us enslaved to darkness!
Sorry this explanation got longโฆbut I wanted to make myself clearโฆlolโฆ
Conclusion
How many of these series have you read? Do you like fantasy as much as I do? Would you like to see a list of books I enjoy in other genres such as historical fiction? Or contemporary? Dystopian? Let me know in the comments!
Writing to Awaken Hope!
