Hey guys! You know that tag that goes around around the fall? You know, it’s called ‘Know the Novel’? Yeah, I forgot to finish doing that…and since I’m here and your here *looks out over the internet desert* Well, I’m here so I thought I’d give you all some more details on Project W!
Since I’ve decided to release Emberling in November I have been hard at work on it’s sequel because I honestly have so many ideas for book 3 in the series it’s not even funny. All this coming from a girl who swore she’d only write standalones because series were too much work…lol…so much for that. *shrugs*
Anyway, let’s get down to business, shall we?
THE QUESTIONS
1. How’s the writing going overall?
Well, that’s a good question…it’s been touch and go, but currently it’s going really well! We’ve got over 63k down! With an ending shaping itself up! I’d say another 20-40k and we should have this baby done!
2. What’s been the most fun aspect about writing this novel so far?
Ooof, um…probably all the creatures and cultures I’m creating! That’s been so much fun! I just love coming up with my own twist for mythical creatures and even creating my own! I’m also just such a fan of the storyline even if it’s quite a bit heavier than Emberling.
Another thing that’s been so dun is Keane! He’s one of the MC’s little brother and I love this kid! He’s so much fun!
3. What do you think of your characters at this point? Who’s your favorite to write about?
I both love and hate them…lol…they are so unique and broken and just frustrating because they keep changing the direction of the story and adding more characters. *glares at the newest addition*
But overall, they are great!
My favorite to write is probably Shale, and when you read Project W you are going to raise a brow and question my mental sanity, trust me, I do too. But there’s something so endearing about this broke young man and the story that he’s telling, of the struggles he’s sharing with me, and the hope that I know is going to burst through in his part of the story!
4. Has your novel surprised you in any way?
Hahaha, this is a question?
Yes! 100 times yes! It has surprised me around every turn, but I assume that’s part of being a pantser…lol..
5. Have you come across any problem areas?
Problems? There’s no problem’s here…*eyebrow twitches as I tense up*
Yeah, there have been plenty of problems. I’ve went back to the beginning to edit about 5 times now. I’m actually doing it again now in order to add an additional POV that is necessary to finish the story. *glares at characters*
6. What’s been your biggest victory with writing this novel at this point?
That I’m still writing it! That I didn’t give up and toss it out…trust me it’s broken my patience more than once but I know there’s something special about it too. Something important so I keep praying my way through it.
7. If you were transported into your novel and became any one of the characters, which one do you think you’d be? Would you take any different actions than they have?
This is easy. I’d be Mora, the only female POV in this 4 POV books. We have very similar personalities. I’d probably be admitting somethings to some people before she does…probably would have fallen apart long before she does…and yeah, she’d got more strength than me, but her personality is similar to mine.
8. Give us the first sentence or paragraph then 2 (or 3!) more favorite snippets!
First paragraph coming right up!
Screams and laughter drifted on the salty breeze, intertwining like long-lost friends. I picked up another Raindow Ostyer, the hard rainbow-colored shell gritty with salt and sand. I dusted it off before shoving it into my satchel.
Project W – first paragraph Shale’s POV
And trust me when I say that Prologue get’s more intense…lol…just ask my beta readers for Emberling, I like to start with a bang!
“But sometimes the wild things don’t know what’s best for them and in those moments we must step in to save them from their own folly. Sometimes Elohim calls us to act when all our instincts insist we stay still.”
Project W – Ben’s POV
This one was from about half-way through the book in Ben’s chapters…but I love it! I love these scene where Ben is reaching out to a broken soul and trying to help those who love said broken soul understand him. How does Ben understand?
Let’s just say he’s got a lot of regrets.
Because maybe he’d seen past my defenses and that thought terrified me. I was the strong one. The only one holding us all together. I couldn’t afford to fall apart for the sake of all those I loved. It was strange to go from wanting someone to see past my defenses and then the moment they did to wish that they hadn’t.
Project W – Mora’s POV
Mora is such a dear…but so confused. I can relate…lol…anyone else just want people to notice your having a hard day but then when they notice you’re mad….haha…I don’t know why my brain works like that but it does. Mora is a lot like me in that respect, though she’s definitely stronger/also more emotional than me…but she has good reason for that…so….yeah.
9. Share an interesting tidbit about the writing process so far! (For example: Have you made any hilarious typos? Derailed from your outline? Killed off a character? Changed projects entirely? Anything you want to share!)
Well, since starting the idea for this project I’ve added two additional POVs. Shale, which got added after chapter 1 was rewritten 3 times. Then Gannon is the latest addition. I’m on his 4th of 5 the chapter right now.
The story definitely derailed because Shale pitched himself to me as a fun loving, humorous, character with a strong faith…and he turned out being the total opposite. (False advertising? Anyone…lol….)
But the plot shifted too, I think for the better, but we’ve yet to decide on that one…lol….
10. Take us on a tour of what a normal writing day for this novel looks like. Where do you write? What time of day? Alone or with others? Is a lot of coffee (or some other drink) consumed? Do you light candles? Play music? Get distracted by social media (*cough, cough*)? Tell all!
I write from 10:15 to 11:00 most nights…there’s water and music and me typing. That’s it. Not super exciting…lol…also there’s my notebooks with all my notes from Emberling that I keep handy. I get distracted on Instagram more than I care to mention and my also get distracted reading other books…lol…but I’m writing and getting between 300 and 1,200 words most evenings! So that’s progress!
Conclusion
Well, I hope y’all enjoyed getting to learn more about Project W! I know I enjoyed getting to share more about it with y’all! I can’t wait for Emberling to release this fall and for all of you to meet Malcolm and Iya! I’m just so excited!
Should I do the third part of Know the Novel? Or nah…like is it too late to do that one? I honestly have never made it past part 1 because I’m so forgetful…lol…
Is there anything about Emberling you’d like to know? Anything about Project W? Would you like to do a Q&A for both of them? Did you like the snippets? I want to know everything!
Let me know in the comments!
Writing to Awaken Hope!
