Hey-Oh everyone!! How are you guys doing? I’m good, I have my homeschool group Christmas dance tonight, so that’ll be pretty fun, I hope 🙂
Speaking of Christmas…wow! Its soooooo close! *squeals* I CAN’T wait! What about y’all? I’m so excited! *glances at stack of presents that need wrapping* I’m behind y’all…lol….
Anyway…. Some exciting news! I finished editing my MG contemporary novella and hope to publish it sometime in June! *squeals* So I thought, what better time to introduce you guys to the story, starting with the MC?
So let’s dive right in, shall we? *raises eyebrows*
The Rules:
1. Don’t take other people’s words or ideas
2. Make sure the story is kid-friendly
3. Don’t be mean or bully others with your post
4. Fill out the questions as the characters were at the beginning of the book
5. You can tag up to seven bloggers
6. Make sure to email faithandwriting@gmail.com when you complete the tag
The Questions:
1. What’s their name?
Ethan Conners
2. What’s their role? (Sidekick, Main Character, Villain, etc)
He’s the introverted MC. A total cinnamon roll / awkward artist. 😉
3. Do they love anyone?
He loves his family! His dad, his older sister Avery, his grandparents, and is especially close to his mom. ❤
4. Do they have any relatives?
His parents, Avery, and his grandparents. (Probably some aunt and uncles too somewhere I’m sure…lol…)
5. Inspiration for character?
Long story…lol… I was reading science and it mentioned Color-blindness, that got me thinking out-of-the-blue “What if there was a colorblind artist? But… he could see green?”
And Ethan was born! (Well, technically Ethan or Emma was born, hadn’t quite decided if I wanted it to be a girl or boy [and yes, they’re both E names, I’ve always loved those names, okay? And they also both happen to be artist from the Lego: Girls on a Mission show *cough* They’re pretty good, okay? So of course, I thought artist and those were the names that came to mind…lol…])
Well, after some quick Google searches I found out that Colorblindness was not what I was looking for, Color Blindness means you see on a different color spectrum (red is green, green is red ect.) And I was looking for complete black and white vision, like the movies you know? (Except for the color green!)
Well, months more of research, I found what I needed was Monochromatic Vision or Monochromacy (I’m not even going to explain all the websites and panic that occurred when I found it and realized that that meant he could ONLY see on a grayscale, no color at ALL! (No green…noooo!!!) And then the relief after I found one comment from some random person saying their friend had Monochromacy, but could see orange! Saved! Thank you random person on the internet! ‘:D ) Anyway, Monochromatic Vison is super rare like 1 out of 30,000 people have it *jaw drop*. And Color Blindness in general, 80% of the people who have it are boys, because it is a gene thing, and girls can usually pass it on to their kids unlike guys who can’t. So in the end I figured making my character a boy would be more believable than if he were a girl who somehow ended up with the rarest colorblind gene. So Ethan was officially born and took off with his story! *wipes brow* Did that make any sense?
6. Backstory?
Not too much. He was born with Monochromacy, meaning he can only see on a grayscale. His parents found out he could see green when he was four.
He’s been drawing since he can remember.
7. Dream? Fears?
His dream is to become a really good artist and to be able to show his art to the world, to be able to communicate what he can’t explain. (And to live somewhere with tons of trees and grass!)
His fear is to be misunderstood, to be mocked because of his condition. To be alone. He has really bad stage freight, and doesn’t like talking to strangers. Technically he has a fear of people…lol….
8. Friends?
Not really, he’s super shy. He gets along with his sister Avery very well though.
9. What is the story’s name?
The story’s official title is ‘This Gray Canvas’.
10. Blurb of the story?
Because how did one explain the gray canvas I was trapped in?
Ethan was born into a world of black and white, a medical condition known as monochromatic vision, but with one exception—he can see the color green. After moving from the Colorado countryside to New York City, Ethan struggles to adjust to the busy and colorless atmosphere.
When encouraged to join a local art contest by his grandfather and a peppy bookworm named Sophie, Ethan considers it. But when the bullies at school get a hold of his sketchpad, and make fun of his colorless art, Ethan wonders if he has anything worth sharing at all. Because how could anyone understand the gray canvas of his life?
Ta-da! Kayti helped me, isn’t it great? 😉
11. What are his habits?
If there’s paper and a pencil, pen, marker, ect, he’s definitely going to draw on it. (Like me :p ) If he doesn’t have art supplies on hand, he plays with his hands, brushes his knuckles together, rubs his hands, ect. Or if he has a bandaid on or there’s a loose string on something he messes with it, he’s awkward and fidgety.
12. Random fact about him?
He has Monochromacy, but can see the color green. *shrugs* Oh, and his middle name is Gage tho it’s never mentioned in the book :p .
13. Personality?
He’s kind, very shy, awkward, has self-doubt, keeps his problems to himself because he doesn’t want anyone to worry about him. Overall he’s just an introverted cinnamon roll with a big heart *hugs him*
14. Hobbies?
Drawing, sketching, painting, listening to music, doodling, drawing, painting…lol…
15. Inspiration for the story?
As mentioned in the above, the inspiration was the thought of a colorblind artist who could see green, and I always wanted to write a book about an artist (my other passion!) So, that was that and here we are! 😉
16. Anything else?
I hope to publish it this summer sometime in June!!!! *squeals* super excited for this story! Hoping to get betas on it soon and start designing the cover, so keep a look out for more exciting info and snippets of this story!!!
