“Hey folks! This is Percy Fudgebottom coming to you live from Sisters Three where the ‘Know the Novel’ questions have been hijacked.” *gasps*
“Yes, it’s quite concerning. Let’s see what author Kaytlin Phillips, aka Kayti, aka the hijacker has to say about this criminal crime.”
*Kayti gives Percy an odd look* “Mr. Fudgebottom…”
*Percy shifts uncomfortably* “Please call me Percy.”
*Kayti rolls eyes* “Percy, I’m doing ‘Know the Novel’ not hijacking the questions.”
*Percy turns toward the invisible audience* “There you have it folks, guilty by her own admission.”
*Kayti slaps forehead and shoves Percy down the dark hole he emerged from*
Hey guys, I’m doing the ‘Know the Novel’ questions for my new YA fantasy Project W! This is a sequel…wait, before you get too excited, a possible sequel to my YA fantasy, Emberling. We shall see.
Anyway, writing a sequel is hard and answering these questions was tricky…but let’s get to it!
1. What first sparked the idea for this novel?
Believe it or not, the first book…lol…I wrote a novel last year during Nano, correction started a novel and finished it in June. It’s a YA Fantasy that’s with some beta readers and I’m trying to decide when to publish/what to do with it…lol…anyway, two of the side characters from that story danced into my head with another story idea and some new friends…so, here I am working on Project W. *shrugs*
2. Share a blurb (or just an overall summary)!
Man, I wish I could say I have a blurb but I don’t…nor do I have a good summary. So let’s settle for some rambling!
This story follows Ranger Ben Jusvin as he seeks to help bring peace to the war torn world of Uriu. Mora Cabe is the second character who is trying not to fall for aforementioned Ranger because having a father and brother who were and are Rangers, she knows the dangers of loving one and wishes to avoid a broken heart.
Shale is my third character *glares at him* because he wouldn’t leave me alone, I’m not a hundred percent sure what his story is *crosses arms*. But he insist that the plight of his people against the giants is important and so he gets a POV.
Somehow all these paths will cross due to an almost fatal accident and the truth of how broken Uriu is will come to light. But the biggest question for them all is—Where is Elohim in all the pain? How can they continue to trust Him as the world crumbles around them?
So, that was a lame and confusing spill about my project. *dust hands* Onto the next thing.
3. Where does the story take place? What are some of your favorite aspects of the setting?
Wow! Okay…this might get long. The story takes place in the made up world of Uriu, which is divided in civil war, war, and ruin…sounds great, right?
The Meadows of Harvanth are warring against themselves and it’s one of my favorite locations with it’s endless meadows and no trees for miles upon miles.
Englewood is another location that is full of dangerous creatures and the ever hunted people of the forest. (I’m trying not to give too much away)
The Shores of the Inken Ocean are my third location, Shale’s home. I haven’t explored them yet, but the thought has me excited!
And lastly, I think, is the Shadowlands home of the giants….rocky, dark, and terrifyingly large!
4. Tell us about your protagonist(s).
Oh, I love Ben! He’s a my baby carried over from book 1 and I just *hugs him*. I love him. He’s giving me a touch of grief, mainly because I’ve never wrote a funny character as the main character, but I have recently learned there’s a whole lot more going on under the jokes…so that helps. He’s loyal to a fault and always has his friend, Malcolm’s back. Even if he calls him Mal all the time to get on his nerves…lol…
Mora is Malcolm’s younger sister…she’s a lot like me. Or I think will be. She’s quiet, but can speak her mind on most things. Helps out where she can and pushes her complaints down or mutters them when no one is around. She feels underappreciated and as if there is no way for her to do everything that everyone expects of her but she doesn’t want to let anyone down.
Shale is—as I said this guys just showed up. But he’s protective, scared but acting brave, and holds guilt for the capture of his older sister by the giants. He feels he should have done something to save her and now he worries he’ll never get her back. To top matters off he can’t just go after her because he’s got twin younger brothers to look after and the weight of the world around his neck.
So, say hello to my cast!
5. Who (or what) is the antagonist?
Depends on who you ask… Shale would say the giants. Ben would say *ahem* spoiler. And Mora would say fear and doubt. In a way they are right! There’s more than one, a battle on all fronts so to speak. *waggles eyebrows*
6. What excites you the most about this novel?
The W part of project W…hehe…I’m keeping it under wraps because I don’t want you too excited if it doesn’t work out, but it’s pretty fantastic! That and there’s Kelpies and strange sea creatures I get to name and explore and I’m super excited about that!
7. Is this going to be a series? standalone? something else?
Hopefully, a series…if I can get this book rolling this will be the second (or final) haven’t worked out the details of The Chronicles of Uriu…but that’s tentative. We shall see where the month leads.
8. Are you plotting? pantsing? plansting?
I am plansting…I need the basic details in line so I can move forward. It’s been hard to get all the ideas together, but surprisingly became a touch easier when Shale showed up…lol…
9. Name a few unique elements in this story.
Returning characters. Humor. Kelpies. Khaylha Foxes. Knasher Hounds. Mannada Birds. Strange sea monsters I’ve yet to concoct but they are going to be awesome! Trust in the midst of crushing doubt. And so much more! (Hopefully, if this works out…lol…)
10. Share some fun “extras” of the story (a song or full playlist, some aesthetics, a collage, a Pinterest board, a map you’ve made, a special theme you’re going to incorporate, ANYTHING you want to share!).
I have nothing! *dissolves into tears* My pinterest board isn’t done…my playlist isn’t done…my aesthetic isn’t set because I really just dived into this project last week…and I only have 700 words down that I keep rewriting because the beginning just won’t work!
But, once I have something to share, I will! Sound good to everyone? Okay, remember to come back with something exciting for everyone at a later date.
Conclusion
That’s a wrap! I know, it was more torture than post because I beat around the bush so much…feel free to ask questions in the comments. I can’t seem to organize my thoughts about this project even though I want to write it so bad!
What do you think? Have you ever wrote a sequel? Was it hard? Do you like series or standalones? Are you doing anything fun this weekend?
Let me know in the comments!
Writing to Awaken Hope!
