And hereโ€™s the questions!

Whatโ€™s a basic idea of the WIPโ€™s plot? (Without spoilers.)

Well, I think the blurb explains it pretty well. So here is it!๐Ÿ˜‰

โ€œBeing a thief is easy, but getting caughtโ€ฆnow, thatโ€™s when it gets tricky.โ€

Dice is a street boy in the poor district of Raheren, forced to be what he must to survive. A liar, a cheat, and a thief. But just like all thieves in Arkrindon he abides by the rules of thieves, stick with your unit, stay in your district, and donโ€™t get caught.

When Dice is jumped by another group of thieves trespassing in pickpocket territory, things quickly escalate. These arenโ€™t just any thieves, this is a whole new breed of thieves, ones who donโ€™t play by the rules. Rogues, burglars, and pickpockets have come together, abandoning districts and uniting under one man, Azic, the master of The Guild of Thieves.

For his freedom and the lives of his unit, the Guild presents a deal: Steal the Kingโ€™s Jewel or watch everyone in his unit die. If Dice steals the jewel heโ€™s dooming the kingdom but if he doesnโ€™t everyone he cares about will pay the price.

What genre is this story written in?

The Guild of Thieves is a YA Christian Fantasy.

What is the WIPโ€™s estimated word count?

70k. A little shorter, it’s sitting at 69k right now with most of its edits, which is extremely annoyingโ€ฆlolโ€ฆ

What is the beautiful, complex, or intriguing land this story is set in? When is it set?

The Guild of Thieves is set in the vast kingdom of Arkrindon, but the story primarily plays out in the desert city of Raheren and the rainforest-like city of Darrenton (meaning it rains all the time, there’s no trees in the city or anythingโ€ฆlolโ€ฆ). Arkrindon is known for its abruptly changing landscapes, so though the two cities are only a three days ride apart they are vastly different. Raheren is where the story opens; it’s a scathing hot city on the edges of the Dunes. Full of red clay adobes, rickety wooden houses, and vast markets, Raheren is a trade cityโ€ฆ perfect for pickpockets. The sun is usually always beating upon the cracked sand in this busy city of spices, vibrantly colored clothes, and odd creatures like the six legged winged Lizargon.

Darrenton is the next location the story takes place in. Surrounded by lush meadows Darrenton is a cold, damp city where if it isn’t raining, its overcast thunderous. Full of gray stone buildings and fine diners and shops, Darrenton is a bustling ‘tourist’ city. Darrenton is a maze of buildings, people, and the thieves that thrive in the busy climate.

Where do you find inspiration for the WIP?

Um, everythingโ€ฆlolโ€ฆ Anything from Robin Hood, Victorian era movies, the Bible, Pinterest, life in general I guess๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธโ€ฆlolโ€ฆ My own art in a big way too I suppose, I mean this whole book was founded on a drawing of a random thief character I named Dice, and it just took off. Whenever I’m stuck, I just draw things from the book, for the book, draw my characters doing random things and I usually get unstuck.

What is the theme of this story, and how does it impact the characters?

It has quite a bit of themes, but I guess one of the main ones is that we are never too far gone. That no matter our past, there is God that still wants us, a God Who’s already forgiven us, and is waiting for us. That no matter what the world has done to you there’s still a God who wants you.

And another big one is communication; understanding. That no matter how different we are in status we’re all just clumsy humans. We all need each other, we need to help each other, not ignore each other and move on; because you can’t judge someone by how they are on the outside. That some people are the way they are because that’s how the world made them, but a little kindness can go a long way. That kindness or hate can change the course of someone’s life.

Who are the main characters? Why is this story about them?

There’s only one MC, Dice. The story’s about him because, well, he was what made the story. He was a practice sketch that got a name, Dice, then wouldn’t leave me alone, he showed up with his story and wouldn’t stop until I wrote it.

Who is the ultimate evil, and what is he/she doing?

Guild Master Azic. He has already built an empire of thieves, allying both pickpockets, burglars, and even the Code breaking rogues, together into one clan. Now he is scheming to steal the precious Kings’ Jewel. But he can’t do it alone, he needs someone with the cunning and cover to be able to pull it off. He will do whatever it takes to get what he wants, and he will not stop until he gets it. Everything, and everyone, is expendable.

Where are the side characters, who are they, and why will they become my favorite?

Well, there are quite a bit of side characters actuallyโ€ฆlolโ€ฆI guess the most important side characters are, Renn, Shadow, Addi, Loriel, Duke Rinald, Master Lennick, and Havoc.

Renn and Shadow are in Dice’s pickpocket unit, and play a critical role in getting the story moving after some rashly made decisions. Renn is also Dice’s best friend, pretty much the only character that can make him laugh. Shadow is as different from Dice as they get, he doesn’t trust easily, and after some important events the tension between the two tightens like a noose.

Master Lennick is the Leader of Dice’s unit, thus playing the important role of the role-model, master ;).

Addi is a servant girl at Darrenton Manor, with a heart for The Creator.

Duke Rinald is the lord of Darrenton and Lady Loriel is his daughter, they play a big role in moving the plot along.

And Havoc is a Rogue under the command of Azic, charged with the duty of keeping an eye on Dice.

And there’s also Commander Steel, Azic’s right-hand thief.

Man, that got kinda longโ€ฆlolโ€ฆ

Whoโ€™s your favorite character to write?

My boy, Dice!

Whatโ€™s a quote that describes each MC?

This one describes Dice pretty well.๐Ÿ’–

Whatโ€™s your favorite thing about the WIP?

Ummmโ€ฆDice, he’s the best character I’ve ever written. And the thieves, they’re fun to write. I’ve always been fascinated with medieval thieves (BBC Robin Hood, Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, being some of my favorite things). And the setting, and the Victorian era twist, and…Yeah, everything?….lolโ€ฆthis is honestly my favorite book I’ve ever written!๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ˜Š

What is the first sentence of the first paragraph of the first page of the first chapter?

How about the first two paragraphs because they’re so tiny?๐Ÿ˜‰

Being a thief is easy, but getting caughtโ€ฆ Now thatโ€™s when it gets tricky. Not that I would know because Iโ€™d never been caught, and I didnโ€™t plan to either.

I pulled my hat low, letting its mahogany brim cover my eyes as I shoved my way through the crowded streets of Raheren.

Now, to end the post, share a short scene from the WIP of some character saying goodbye. (If you have such a scene.)

This is the best one I could find without spoilersโ€ฆlolโ€ฆbut here you go!

The carriage stopped, and Azic opened the door, stepping out onto the street. โ€œWell, this is where I must leave you, Cedric.โ€ Azic bowed slightly, then disappeared around the front of the carriage and addressed the rogue at the head of the carriage, who was wearing a guardโ€™s uniform. โ€œStay sharp, Havoc.โ€

Ahhhh! can i just find Dice, hug him and learn everything about him? That quote describing Dice had me feeling so bad for him. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But then again he might steal all my stuff tooโ€ฆlol. Jaidie, your MC sounds like quite a character! and the story โ€“ soo suspenseful. Good job with the pics! Iโ€™ve had story ideas or my drawings, too! Theyโ€™ve never become a book, โ€™tis true, but Iโ€™ll remember that tip next time I wanna write but canโ€™t think a of anything. ๐Ÿ˜€
