World of Silence Contest!!!

Hey guys! How’s everybody? Did you have a great Easter? I think I said on Goodreads to be looking for this post on the coming Friday, but here I am a few days early! Anyway, let’s get down to the exciting business!

A dear friend of my sisters and I came up with an amazing way to celebrate the release of World of Silence! Can’t thank you enough, Saraina! She said it would be cool if I did a short story contest where the contestants weren’t allowed to use the sense of sound….*raises eyebrow* So, I am hosting a short story contest!!! Yeah, pretty crazy exciting! (I’ve got some other crazy ideas connected to this if it goes well, but for now, let’s just say that this is going to be awesome!)

I know when I first started writing WoS I was like, pshh, this can’t be that hard. No, sound…I can do that. On day one I realized my mistake. So many descriptions use sound! I could have birds singing, footsteps ringing, rustling or dress skirts, the skittering of scales as they moved, the whoosh of wings, thunk of an arrow….lots of things! But, it can be done! And it’s so satisfying and awesome when you finish! So here are the rules for the contest!

  1. You cannot use sound. Your character like Fledge from WoS has to be deaf.
  2. Your story must be under 3,000 words (if it goes over a little, not a lot, then that’s fine)
  3. Must not contain any foul language, gory scenes, or anything inappropriate. Keep it PG….WoS is a Middle-Grade book, and I personally don’t want to read anything above that right now.
  4. Your story must be submitted by May 15th; I will announce the winners on WoS’s release day!!!
  5. Have fun! I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

There are the rules. I think this is a fun idea! I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! Entries are to be submitted by May 15th but can be submitted till I close the form sometime on the 16th…

I wanted to do signed copies of WoS for first and second place winners, but since getting to the post office is something my family struggles with….lol….first place will receive a free Hardcopy! (As long as those hardcopies work out, I’ll keep you guys updated on that). Second place will get a free paperback copy!!! And third place will get a PDF copy! And all the stories will be featured here on the blog and on my Facebook! (And I have another idea, for the winners and other stories…but, ahem, need to think about it a bit more 😉 )

Here is the link to enter! I hope you do! 😉

(Don’t worry, I checked this one and the link does work!)

Guys, I am so excited about this! Are you guys excited about it? Anyone entering? What do you think of this idea? WoS’s releases in a little over a month away!!! I’d love to hear from you guys in the comments!

Hooroo!

Bless!

Hi there, my name is Kaytlin Phillips, I go by Kayti. I am a homeschool grad, author, reader, and child of our Gracious King!!! I have an obsession with the written word, or maybe an addiction. Ever since I can remember I have read everything I can get my hands on! I LOVE BOOKS!!! I also love writing and might have a slight obsession with pens and notebooks, don't tell anyone. I also love the smell of old books! And yes, if your wondering, I talk to myself, I think all bookishly crazy people do...

  1. Wow! May has snuck up on us…lol…or me at least. There is a week and a half left before the contest closes, I’m looking forward to seeing and reading the submissions!

    1. Can characters write to each other, or use sign language? I have a scene in mine where the MC writes to his friend.

  2. Also, I’m not sure I made it clear in the post…but your story doesn’t have to be fantasy. It can be any genre you want! Just wanted to make that clear!
    Happy writing!

  3. I used to be good at short stories, but this is way harder than I thought it would be. I’ve barely started and am already 500 words in!

    1. Short stories are much harder than I thought. I’m already so close to 3000 words and I’m like NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Let’s just say I like lengthy writing lol. I’m trying to shorten it though…I promise!

      1. Awww, I could send you a PDF…And something like a file of the cover picture without the words so you could print it?
        This sounds cheesy…lol…
But I seriously don’t want you to feel like you can’t join!

      2. Ooh, that could work!! We’ll see if I have time to cook something up – I’m entered into a LOT of contests right now and am trying to cut down on all the writing I do. XD

  4. Yay!!! I hope a lot of people enter the contest!! 😀 (Also, since I was a beta reader, do you think it would be fair for me to write a story for it?)

    1. Ack, me too!!! I have other ideas too *raises eyebrows* (I think it would be fine….I read multiple books on deaf characters and watched three seasons of a tv show and it helped me non when trying to write my own…lol…so, I think it’d be fine. If anyone reading this disagrees let me know….)
