What genre is this story written in?
New adult fairy tale retelling. That is a mouthful…lol…
What is the books estimated page count?
Around 250 pages! It is a novella so, a shorter quicker read.
What is the beautiful, complex, or intriguing land this story is set in? When is it set?
Of Shadows & Snow is set in the kingdoms of Everhart and Narsford. Everhart is Dutch inspired and Narsford is more winter inspired, aka Snow Queen retelling. There are many unique locations between the two kingdoms that some of our characters traverse in order to reach Narsford. Things such as snow storms, hot springs, tall mountains, gypsies, and a frozen lake all lay between the two kingdoms.
It is set in my own fantasy timeline.
Where did you find inspiration for the book?
Well, firstly from the fairytale, cause if you’re retelling a fairytale it’s a good idea to get inspiration from said fairytale. *nods wisely*
Also from Dutch culture, Romanian gypsy culture, and my own encounters with snow. Yes, those are few and far between but I do love snow. XD So, thus…lots of snow!
What is the theme of this story, and how does it impact the characters?
The theme is complex, I like to think. XD Because not only is it asking the question of why do bad things happen to good people, it also asks why our prayers aren’t answered. I dove into the realities of both, pulling on my own life experiences. <3
They impact the characters because both of the main characters are struggling to accept some hard things that have happened. Where the FMC wants to trust and is trying her hardest, the MMC has turned his back on God almost entirely.
Who are main characters?
There are two: Emalyn and Koa.
Emalyn is not afraid to stand up for herself and others, she’s a princess who really just wants to enjoy life and do her best.
Koa feels he is broken, that he has failed. He has a mysterious illness that hinders his ability to do the things he loves such as hunting and tracking.
Who is the ultimate evil, and what is he/she doing?
Um…*glances around* I can’t tell you that. *darts off*
Who are the side characters and why will they become my favorite?
The biggest side character who shows up often is Prince Gaelen, Emalyn’s younger brother. He is a sweet, red-headed healer who makes healing teas (Koa would tell you they are poison) and give good advice. He’s the mother of the group, despite being the youngest. XD
He’ll be your favorite merely because he is contagiously happy and doesn’t know how to give up on the people he loves.
What’s a quote that describes each MC?

It was not the caravan, nor the mountains and forests, nor the dales and stones I’d called home. It was not nights under the stars, lying under heaven’s embrace. It wasn’t flickering firelight and dancing embers as the wind sang over the ridgeline.

A question that rattled around my head daily. I didn’t feel strong enough for the task He had entrusted to me.
Yet, wasn’t that the beauty of it? That I wasn’t strong enough on my own, but with Jehovah anything was possible.
What’s your favorite thing about the book?
I love the setting and the emotional journey of the characters…and LUJA! Emalyn’s pet fox might be my favorite part of the story! XD
