“This is Percy Fudgebottom coming to you live from North Carolina where the weather has finally turned chilly and the snow is non-existent.” Percy glances at the brown and gray world around him. “But that’s not the breaking news…no. In this world of winter I bring you news of a brand new New Adult Historical Fiction Novella releasing next week!”

“What is this book about? I’m glad you asked and I’m happy to explain! It’s a Post WWI story about a piano player and a girl and their…love? Struggles? Uh,” glances at notes, “And…uh…that’s all I’ve got.” *shrugs*

“You totally want to go buy the book now right?” *Percy grins*

*Kayti slaps forehead and takes microphone from Percy* “I’m sorry about him, I had a script for him to read.” *glares at Percy who’s wiping his brow with said script*

Next week my New Adult Historical Fiction Novella Heart of Keys releases! This is the part where you say, what? You wrote a historical fiction novella? You have a new book releasing? When did this happen?

And this is embarrassing but this release has been planned since like January…and I’ve been so busy with so many things I totally forgot to share anything about it much at all until now. *hides*

I know!? I’m a terrible marketer…but I’ve been busy between drafting another novella, starting Project Stone, getting Waveling ready for publishing, helping publish Brother Divided, beta reading The Code of Pirates, going to the YWW Retreat, working, eating…you know…all important things. XD

But, I am here now…a week before my book releases to give you some info on this story! So here we go…

First you can thank my friend, Vanessa Hall, for inspiring me to expand a short story that is now a novella! I’m pretty proud of how well my first historical fiction book turned out! It was a bit of a challenge to get the story right, but I enjoyed fighting with a new genre and it was nice to take a short break from fantasy and kind of recharge my well in that department.

Heart of Keys: A Post WWI Novella follows the story of Davie Leyton who uses to movie to cope with his shell-shock, a condition most people don’t understand. He’s drowning in guilt for making it home when his best friend didn’t and he’s angry with the loss of his voice. Imrie Ashton has love David since before he left for war, but now he’s pushing her away and all she wants to do is help him see that no matter what he saw or did in the Battle of the Sommes, God still loves him and so does she!

The original short story was just about a Davie and Imrie and him coping with the loss of his voice. It was one scene at the piano and that was it…turned out there was quite a bit more to be told.

If you are interested in HoK here’s some need info:

It releases Dec. 9th in ebook and paperback!

Some of the content includes – mental health rep dealing with depression and suicide, loss, heart break, and learning that we can’t save anyone we can only plant the seeds. Some mentions of old wounds, phantom pain, and the loss of voice, mustard gas, the horrors of war…all handled with the utmost care and loads of prayer. I prayed over this story so much y’all! From the romance to the heavy themes that I wanted to present delicately but also do them justice…hopefully I did just that. I don’t know why the Lord had me writing such heavy books this past year…between HoK and Waveling the stories have been hard to write at times, but the Lord is faithful and carried me through both books and I believe I did well presenting heavy topics with grace.

You can pre-order Heart of Keys here! (And Waveling here, just fyi)

I’m so excited for y’all to read Hok and meet Davie and Imrie! I’m sorry I have don’t better talking about this story, I meant to last month but life got extremely hectic. Anyway, let me know if you’re excited about my first historical fiction book!

Writing to Awaken Hope!
