It’s release day! Emberling is officially out in the world! Meaning you can now get paperbacks on Amazon! I’m so excited that this story is out in the world and cannot wait to hear what everyone thinks about it! I poured so much into the story of the last two years so this moment feels surreal…
It’s always my birthday! So every purchase and pre-order has felt like a present! So thank y’all!
Today I’ve got a Q&A with the characters! I hope you guys enjoy getting to know more about the characters!
Q&A with Iya

– How do you go about deceiving Malcolm/the Rangers?
I never meant to…at least, not at first. They assumed I was a human girl and I never corrected that assumption because to do so would mean death. I did lie about my name…which I felt bad about, but if I’d told him my name was Iya they would have known I was Emberling.
The rest was true…just vague truth. Like saying my Poppa was a shepherd, he was, just not of sheep instead he was a shepherd of the forest.
– If you could, how would you sway them to your side?
By helping them see the truth. That Emberlings are not the monsters or demons they believe us to be. We have thoughts, feelings, emotions, we hurt just like they do. If they could realize that we are just as human as they are perhaps they wouldn’t slaughter us like animals.
– What is your dorkish side like? Your adult/mature side?
I love dancing in the rains of the first and second season, letting the drops sizzle in the heat of my palms. I love telling stories with the fire in my veins and creating images that move people.
I trust Elohim with my future, am determined to fulfill my role as an Emberling and protector of the Meadows of Harvanth. My fire is a gift, not a toy, not a weapon, but a tool given to me by Elohim Himself to use for the care and protection of others.
– What are you like when you’re sad?
I tend to struggle to trust Elohim’s plans when I’m sad, it is hard to see what good could come out of so much pain. I often want to run, to hide, but that is not what Elohim has called me too.
– Who do you love the most in the world?
My Meeme and Poppa, but they are gone. So…to say who I love most might be a spoiler.
– Vices that drive you up a wall in others?
Hardheadedness, the unwillingness to consider that someone else might be right, and judging others based on the actions of someone else. These things are what started the slaughter of the Emberlings—my people.

Q&A with Malcolm

– Favorite weapon?
Bow. I prefer the safety that distance offers, especially since we are often dealing with Emberlings or forest creatures.
– Worst nightmare (literally, as in dream, and also figuratively, as in possible future)?
Don’t tell Ben but my worst name is horses. I hate them…for reasons I don’t want to disclose.
Horses are honestly my worst nightmare all around, but also loosing those that I love, failing them when they need me most…those about the only fears I have room for…they’re rather large.
– How do you deal with fear?
Fight it. I push past it. I ride my horse and try not to think about the past that left me with this crippling fear. I keep fighting for the future of The Meadows of Harvanth and try not to think about all the ways I’ve let my family down and how much I wish my father were still here.
If I don’t keep moving forward and charging on…then I might be paralyzed by the fears.
– What’s your secret talent?
Um, well…I don’t know…I’m good at picking giant locks with a danger and I’m good with kids. *shrugs* I have a nine year old brother.
– Cookies: yea or nay?
Definitely yea. Though nothing beats Mother’s bannock or perhaps a slice of mincemeat pie.
Q&A with Ben

– If you could come up with one advancement for your culture, cost/technology/safety all covered, what would you produce?
Some sort of fence that would help keep the forest contained. Safety is the highest priority for my people at this point. If you were thinking of visiting the Meadows of Harvanth you might want to wait.
– Best kind of pet?
Horse. Hands down no argument, you never convince me otherwise. Horses are the absolute best, even if Mal is scared of them.
– Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Are you working toward that or kinda just waiting for it to happen?
Still with the rangers, married, maybe, with a kid or two…I’m waiting for it to happen. I have a girl I like, but I’m waiting for her to acknowledge that we are more than friends.
– What kinds of things do you nerd out over?
Horses. I grew up on a horse ranch called Moorland Glas, my father raises horses for the ranger so I could talk about horses all day.
And painting, I’m not very good at it, but my mother loves painting and thus I know a lot about it and quite enjoy looking at her paintings. Which are mostly of horses so it all ties back around. *winks*
Q&A with Duncan:

– If you had to write a book or die, what would you write? Or would you choose death? XP
I’d write a book about my life as a ranger, passing down my wisdom for the next generations and hopefully educate a few of them on Emberlings along the way.
– Favorite place to be and why?
In the saddle, riding across the Meadows of Harvanth, there is something both freeing and cleansing about it.
– What do you order when getting a drink?
Water or coffee, preferably coffee.
– You get one favor from the ruling authority. What do you ask for?
An end to the slaughter of the Emberlings, perhaps just a moment of his time to explain why what we are doing is wrong. (and probably to apologize for lying to him even though it was the lesser of two evils.)
– Do you have a frenemy?
Malcolm Cabe seems to see me that…*sighs* that, lad.
Q&A with other Cast Members:
– What’s your opinion of the main characters?
Malcolm Cabe was a good ranger, until he wasn’t. And the Emberling… *sneers* is just like the rest of her people. Pretending to be helping while they plot to kill us all. Destroy us like they did Nodv.
– What do you envision your future being?
Full of missions to eradicate the Emberlings, longing for the family I no longer have because of them, and endless struggle against those who think they are ‘good’.
– Who’s your favorite and least favorite people in the world?
Favorite people right now…would be my sister-in-law and niece who you will meet in book 3 of the series.
Least favorite, easy, Ranger Malcolm Cabe, Ranger Ben Jusvin, and there Emberling friend…and more people but let’s keep the spoilers to minimum.
Conclusion:
Tah-dah! I hope you enjoyed the interviews! And thank you to Joelle for all the questions! I kept the last one anonymous, for now, though ARC readers will know who it is. He’s a very bitter guy and I’m excited to dive deeper into his story in book 3…it’s proving to be traumatic and dramatic.
As for anyone who thinks Ben is great…he’s one of the main characters of Waveling! So get ready! Lol…

And before I sign-off here’s some info about the tour:
Emberling Blurb
One never realizes how large their world is until they struggle to protect it.
Her entire life, Iya has been pursued by the Rangers, who despise her people for the fire in their veins. She has lost everything to their hatred, and now the fate of Uriu hangs in the treacherous balance. The Emberlings are dwindling in numbers, causing unleashed chaos that threatens not only Englewood but the Meadows of Harvanth as well.
Malcolm Cabe is fueled by hatred as he sets out to annihilate the fire-wielding Emberlings responsible for his father’s death. However, his mission takes an unexpected turn when he saves Iyana, a secretive girl haunted by a heartrending past.
Iya must keep her identity hidden from Malcolm and the other Rangers because if they discover who she is…death awaits her. But if the truth is never told how can they find the strength to forgive and unite? Decisions need to be made, and the wrong ones could lead to the destruction of all of Uriu.
