Tag the Nameless (A sneak peek into Jaidie’s upcoming release This Gray Canvas)

Hey-Oh everyone!! How’s your new year going?? Mines been great, started it out with rewatching the Dragons: Riders and Defenders of Berk series and reading the Unfinished Tales, so yes, I’m very happy. *grins* Oh, I also got a new book crate because my shelf is PACKED so yay!!! All ready for my Mckays birthday trip in April *rubs hands together*

Anyway, I didn’t come on here to fangirl, well I sort of did, but not about this….lol….

Wellll…..I’m sure all of you know that I’m working on publishing another book this summer, This Gray Canvas, so I thought I would tell y’all a little more about it, I know you all love it when I won’t shut up about my books *Grins as everyone groans*

So I decided to do this tag I found in a random Google Doc that I have no idea what it’s called, I have the rules tho…lol… So I have dubbed it “Tag the Nameless” (if you get that reference, please tell me in the comments because it’s from one of my favorite series [not LotR or HTTYD just to clear confusion XD] )

Anyway… here we go! The rules which I have no idea where they’re from…lol…

Thank the person who tagged you, and link back to their post. and the creator of this tag. Bree @ Laughs and Literature (I guess at some point this was accurate *shrugs*)

Link back to the creator of the tag(Oh, what do you know? Some clues to our mystery, write that down Fudgbottom *Percy, blog assistant, fumbles with notepad*: luluslibrary.com

Add the tag graphic somewhere in your post. (Oops…. Yeah, lets just. *shoves Percy forward* Moving on.)

Answer each question while successfully dodging spoilers. (That I can do. No, don’t write that down Fudgbottom!)

Include a clean set of the rules and questions at the bottom of your post. (I will try, but this blog is very finicky on my tablet…lol…)

Tag as many people as you want! (Easy)

And here’s the questions! (Woo, this I can do! *Percy scribbles violently in notepad*)

What’s a basic idea of the WIP’s plot? (Without spoilers.)

The blurb sums it up pretty nice, tho I can’t take much credit for it because Kayti wrote most of it because I can’t write blurbs for my books, I can write other people’s blurbs but not my own…lol… :p

Because how did one explain the gray canvas I was trapped in?

Ethan was born into a world of black and white a medical condition known as monochromatic vision, but with one exception—he can see the color green. After moving from the Colorado countryside to New York City, Ethan struggles to adjust to the busy and colorless atmosphere.

When encouraged to join a local art contest by his grandfather and a peppy bookworm named Sophie, Ethan considers it. But when the bullies at school get a hold of his sketchpad, and make fun of his colorless art, Ethan wonders if he has anything worth sharing at all. Because how could anyone understand the gray canvas of his life?

What genre is this story written in?

This Gray Canvas is a Middle Grade contemporary fiction novella. (Woo, that’s a mouthful *wipes brow*)

What is the WIP’s estimated word count?

Currently it’s at 18k something, and I don’t expect it to change that much, tho 20k would be nice, but I don’t think it’s happening…lol…

What is the beautiful, complex, or intriguing land this story is set in? When is it set?

Well, it’s set on Earth, New York City to be exact. And well, I’m sure we all know what New York is like so yeah…*smiles sheepishly and slinks out of room*

Where do you find inspiration for the WIP?

Um, music, drawing, nature, selective color photography (black and white photos with green). Everywhere? *shrugs*

What is the theme of this story, and how does it impact the characters?

It has a few themes, the power of art, overcoming fears being some main ones. Not letting others knock you down and learning how to be yourself, not hiding your talents or true self from others.

Another one is how powerful art is, that it can say things you can’t explain, show others how you see the world around you.

And another one is that home isn’t where you are from or where you feel comfortable at, home is who you’re with. Home is family not a place. 🙂

Who are the main characters? Why is this story about them?

The MC is twelve-year-old Ethan Conners, and the story is about him because he just showed up one day and I related to him a lot. He’s an artist and introvert too 😉

Who is the ultimate evil, and what is he/she doing?

Well, it’s contemporary so there isn’t really an ultimate evil, not a person anyway. I think the ultimate evil in This Gray Canvas would be fear and self-doubt. Fear of change and failure, self-doubt about your talents, and about who you are.

Where are the side characters, who are they, and why will they become my favorite?

Well, there’s Ethan’s family (his protective, gentle, and supportive mom, his supportive, hardworking dad, and his fun and loving older sister, Avery.)

Then there’s Sophie, an extroverted, optimistic bookworm from Ethan’s school who won’t allow him to sit in silence by himself. 😉

There’s Ethan’s sweet grandparents too.

Then there’s Dylan and Cameron, the not so nice kids.  *whistles innocently and avoids eye contact*

And that’s all the important ones, you will have to wait and read the book to find out more about them *waggles eyebrows*.

Who’s your favorite character to write?

Uhhh…. Sophie! She’s super bubbly and fun, and kinda reminds me of my bestie. *smiles and waves enthusiastically*. Way easier to write then 99 percent introverted, shy, awkward, and kind of unpleased Ethan. Basically he’s too much like me and I don’t know how to get him out of his shell, because I don’t really come out of my own shell…*coughs*

What’s a quote that describes each MC?

Uh…. Oh, this one def! (This is like Ethan’s quote but also like the whole book too…lol…)

What’s your favorite thing about the WIP?

Um… the artsy scenes (I get to write about my other passion guys!! 😀 ), the twist of an MC with Monochromatic Vision, the fuzzy and artsy vibes, the relationship Ethan shares with his mom, and just yeah, it’s a pretty fuzzy book and I love it! ❤ *hugs it*

What is the first sentence of the first paragraph of the first page of the first chapter?

Some things in life you never ask for.

Tah-dah! *waggles eyebrows*

Now, to end the post, share a short scene from the WIP of some character saying goodbye. (If you have such a scene.)

This I the best I’ve got, and it hasn’t gone through the last edits yet…

I shrugged my book-bag on as Mom hurried down the hall again. “I love you Ethan, baby. Have a good day.” She planted a kiss on my forehead as she passed into the kitchen. “Avery, get in the car now! I’m going to be late for work then you’ll have to walk to school!”

I sighed and yanked the door open.

“Bye, Ethan!” Avery called as she sauntered into the living room just as I closed the door.

Conclusion:

Woo, was that fun or what?

*Audience stares blankly*

*Shrugs* Well, I had fun! And I am super excited to share this story with y’all!! *squeals*

More updates and information to come in future posts so keep your eyes open for that! *steps forward and trips as mic cord goes taught* Ugh, Fudgebottom, walk forward when I do! *turns back to audience* Anyway…

What did you think of this post? Do you know what the tag is called? Are you excited about This Gray Canvas? Ever heard of Monochromatic Vision or selective color photography? Do you like the awkward introverted characters or the bubbly extroverted characters?

Let me know in the comments—

*Percy clears throat*

What?

*Percy taps notepad*

Why don’t you talk around me? You know I can’t read cursive, I can barely read English!

*Percy huffed and writes something in script*

I don’t understand you, you talk for Kayti, she can’t get you to shut up. *crosses arms then looks at the notepad* Oh!!! Right! The tags…..uhhhhh…. How about, anyone who wants to? 😉

Okay, bye now!!! Let me know your thoughts in the comments!! 😀

*drags Percy off stage*

Toodles,

This sounds like such an interesting story from a perspective I’ve never heard *hugs Ethan* I love the premise and it sounds like you have a great plotline going already! All the best with your writing! May your pen be sharp and your writer’s block at the bottom of the ocean locked up in a double-iron chest with 10 padlocks!! XD
