My focus shifted as hooves pounded the ground and a horse came into view. Its muscles twitched along with his ears, the loud rhythm of his heart banging against his chest filling the air. On top of the horse was a massive soldier, sword drawn, and ready to slice my head clean off my shoulders.

I sighed and turned my gaze beyond the house. In the distance, there was a large white barn with whitewashed wooden fences that jutted up against it and horses grazing in the fresh green pasture. Honestly, the barn looked more inviting than the house.
