Hey guys! How’s everybody? Did you have a great Easter? I think I said on Goodreads to be looking for this post on the coming Friday, but here I am a few days early! Anyway, let’s get down to the exciting business!
A dear friend of my sisters and I came up with an amazing way to celebrate the release of World of Silence! Can’t thank you enough, Saraina! She said it would be cool if I did a short story contest where the contestants weren’t allowed to use the sense of sound….*raises eyebrow* So, I am hosting a short story contest!!! Yeah, pretty crazy exciting! (I’ve got some other crazy ideas connected to this if it goes well, but for now, let’s just say that this is going to be awesome!)
I know when I first started writing WoS I was like, pshh, this can’t be that hard. No, sound…I can do that. On day one I realized my mistake. So many descriptions use sound! I could have birds singing, footsteps ringing, rustling or dress skirts, the skittering of scales as they moved, the whoosh of wings, thunk of an arrow….lots of things! But, it can be done! And it’s so satisfying and awesome when you finish! So here are the rules for the contest!
- You cannot use sound. Your character like Fledge from WoS has to be deaf.
- Your story must be under 3,000 words (if it goes over a little, not a lot, then that’s fine)
- Must not contain any foul language, gory scenes, or anything inappropriate. Keep it PG….WoS is a Middle-Grade book, and I personally don’t want to read anything above that right now.
- Your story must be submitted by May 15th; I will announce the winners on WoS’s release day!!!
- Have fun! I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!
There are the rules. I think this is a fun idea! I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! Entries are to be submitted by May 15th but can be submitted till I close the form sometime on the 16th…
I wanted to do signed copies of WoS for first and second place winners, but since getting to the post office is something my family struggles with….lol….first place will receive a free Hardcopy! (As long as those hardcopies work out, I’ll keep you guys updated on that). Second place will get a free paperback copy!!! And third place will get a PDF copy! And all the stories will be featured here on the blog and on my Facebook! (And I have another idea, for the winners and other stories…but, ahem, need to think about it a bit more 😉 )
